1947 Marine Green Sheaffer Sovereign fountain pen - Vacuum-Fil - stubby fine point

For some reason in the 1940s Sheaffer made few pens with standard nibs. Rather most of their pens had conical nibs - perhaps because these were so distinctively Sheaffer. They did make some models with standard nibs and they are marvelous pens. Here is a lovely example.

The nib is the star. It has a stubby shaped point. Not exactly a stub grind, but close enough to a stub to produce subtle, lovely line variation. It's so much fun.

The celluloid is in excellent condition with no cracks, marks or flaws. This pen has an inner barrel of injection molded plastic with an outer barrel, or binde, of opaque celluloid. A few of these pens - this one included - have a binde with a transparent forward portion.

There is some lost plating at the end of the cap clip though the band is in perfect condition.

The vacuum filler is freshly restored with modern, synthetic materials that will last decades with only an occasional application of silicone grease on the filler rod.

The pen and nib are comparable in size to a Sailor ProGear. If desired, the cap will post on the barrel to make the pen comfortable in any hand.
