Golden Brown Sheaffer Craftsman Deluxe fountain pen & pencil - Feather Touch 5 nib

I call this a "Deluxe" Craftsman for 2 reason. First, the milled "jewelers" band is a feature not found in the Sheaffer catalogs. This one is engraved with MMC. Collector lore says pens with fancy bands like these were sold exclusively through Sheaffer dealers that were jewelers. A little something special for Walter Sheaffer's jeweler brethren - he began selling his pens in his own jewelry store. Second, I've upgraded the broken #3 nib with a Feather Touch 5. I believe the Feather Touch 5 is one of the best nibs ever produced. They are not flexible but they are soft and bouncy and produce lovely line variation under normal writing pressure.

The celluloid is unmarked by cracks or flaws. The transparency has darkened and reddened though the ink level is easily viewed when held before a light. Someone tried to remove the ebonite grip section with pliers leaving a ring scar. I've smoothed the scar so it cannot be felt despite its unappealing appearance. The ends of the clip have a bit of worn plating. The pencil works perfectly but has neither graphite nor eraser.

The filling system has been restore with modern, synthetic materials that will last for years. The only maintenance is an occasional dab of silicone grease on the filler rod.

The pen and nib are comparable in size to a Pelikan M6xx.
