Ebonized Pearl Sheaffer Balance "Craftsman" fountain pen
Ebonized Pearl Sheaffer Balance "Craftsman" fountain pen
This is a long, slender pen from 1936 or 1937. In 1938 it would be called a Craftsman. It was originally equipped with a #3 nib. The tipping on that nib was broken so I have upgraded the pen to have one of the best nibs ever produced - the Feather Touch 5. It is a bouncy, soft nib that produces lovely line variation under normal writing pressure. Though it should never be pushed as if it were a truly flexible nib.
This pen deserves the upgraded nib. It is in flawless condition. The color and clarity of the celluloid is perfect. It is truly like new with a light green hue to the visualated barrel and perfect, clear and undarkened surface celluloid layer over the embedded nacre chips. There is no plating loss on any of the trim.
The filling system has been restore with modern, synthetic materials that will last for years. The only maintenance is an occasional dab of silicone grease on the filler rod.
