~1933 Marine Green Sheaffer Medium Lifetime Feather Touch Balance - fine nib
~1933 Marine Green Sheaffer Medium Lifetime Feather Touch Balance - fine nib
The 1934 Sheaffer catalog says:
...a LIFETIME FEATHERTOUCH BALANCE pen ... The LIFETIME is the aristocrat of all writing instruments. The large size sells for $10... the long size is $9.50 ... the medium size is $8.75. LIFETIME pens come in four colors -- new ebonized pearl, marine green, grey pearl and black.
This pen has a unique clip that was appears on pens from the 1933 and 1934 catalog. The pen is uncommon in a couple of characteristics. It is a full size diameter pen but with a shorter overall length. In the heart of the Balance era this combination was not available. Later full size diameter pens are also full length and short length pens are all slender. The mottled marine green was only available until 1935. In 1936 the Sheaffer catalog has no green pens. The 1937 catalog introduced marine green striated pens. The stripes are beautiful but not exactly the same as the amazing depth in the marbling on this pen.
While smaller than some, this pen posts up to a length that is perfectly comfortable for even large hands. It is gorgeous with no staining, darkening, cracks or flaw in the celluloid. In fact, the only flaw is a touch of plating loss on the clip ball.
I've installed a silicone sac to prevent any possible darkening of the celluloid. The nib writes a beautiful wet, smooth line.
