Blue Sheaffer PFM III
Blue Sheaffer PFM III
The PFM is another quintessentially Sheaffer designs. The PFM has inspired pens like the Waterman Carene/Edson and Pilot Super/Custom/Elite/Silvern. I'm probably forgetting others. Perhaps you think the PFM is a riff on the Moore "FingerTip" or Waterman c/f. I don't think so. But, I admit I am biased. This is also the last Sheaffer Snorkel filling pen. I could go on and on about all the amazing characteristics of a PFM. The problem is that it's so original and so well executed that almost anything said about it sounds trite and cliche. I love them so much that I have 6 in my collection and 5 are blue.
There are 5 main PFM models. Collector lore discusses at least a couple more but they are exceptionally rare or perhaps only legendary. The PFM I & II have PdAg (Palladium Silver) nibs and silver trim. The PFM I has plastic cap with no white dot. PFMs II - V all have white dots. The PFM II has a steel cap. PFMs III - V have 14k gold nibs and 14k gold trim. PFM III has a plastic cap, IV a polish chrome cap with gold band, V a gold plated cap.
This pen has been carefully restored. It has a silicone sac allowing use of any fountain pen ink. The plastic has been polished to shine like new. the nib writes a smooth, wet, fine line.
