This pen is in such nice condition. The barrel transparency is remarkable and has darkened only slightly. There are no faults or flaws in the celluloid or trim.
Please note: There are no cracks in the cap peak. That is a thread from a cleaning cloth stuck under the top of the clip.
The Statesman is the 2nd largest Balance pen Sheaffer made. It is comparable in physical dimensions to a modern Pelikan M6xx or Sailor 1911L (ProFit 21). I have large hands and find no problem writing with the pen without posting the cap on the barrel end.
This pen dates from 1936 to approximately 1937. Sometime around 1938 Sheaffer added a price code (1000 for this model) to the barrel imprint.
