1948 Umber Sheaffer Triumph Valiant - Vacuum-Fil - stubby fine point
Oh, this nib. Wow. Sheaffer Triumph nib points are often stub shaped rather than spherical. I call them stubby. They aren't as square cornered as a true stub. They have rounded corners that make them very forgiving to sloppy rotation control like mine. They provide lovely line variation. I think they are brilliant and I usually horde them for myself. I've adjusted this nib to write a wet and smooth line. It's glorious.
The Valiant is the largest Sheaffer Triumph along with the Crest Deluxe (gold cap) and Sentinel Deluxe (steel cap). It is not large by modern standards but the cap can post on the barrel to make it perfectly usable for even large hands.
This is a robust and healthy pen that shows a bit of cosmetic wear from 76 years of service. There are some flea bites in the plastic cap adjacent to the clip and some teeth marks on the filler knob. There is a bit of plating wear and scratches on the clip. The ink view grip section has darkened but remains transparent enough to easily see the ink level.
The filling system has been restored with modern synthetic materials that will last for years and years. The only service required is an occasional dab of silicone grease on the filler rod. See my web site for filling and service instructions.
