1947 Gray Pearl Sheaffer Triumph Sentinel Deluxe fountain pen - fine nib

Sentinel Deluxe are one of the three largest Triumph models that Sheaffer made. It's siblings are the Valiant (celluloid cap) and the Crest Deluxe (rolled gold cap). I personally like the Sentinel Deluxe the best of those. The brushed steel cap looks very nice. There is a smaller Triumph Sentinel that is a sibling of the Triumph Statesman. But, this is the big one.

These steel caps are difficult to find without dents in the peak. Or, without any dents at all. The peak of this cap is perfect though there is a small divot adjacent to the clip. Otherwise, the pen is in amazing condition. The clip is tight, straight and has an excellent spring. The ink view grip section is dark green and has very good transparency. It was originally pale green. The entire section was never fully transparent - most of its interior is painted black. The gray striped celluloid is unblemished and is polished to be like new.

The filling system has been restored with modern synthetic materials that will last decades. The only maintenance required is an occasional dab of 100% pure silicone grease on the filler rod.

The nib writes a smooth, wet and somewhat stubby fine line. It is not a stub, per se, but enough so that it offers nice line variation. A common characteristic from Triumph nibs. I read an interview with a Sheaffer employee that was a nib grinder at the factory during the Triumph era. He said the stubby point shape was the preferred grind. The cap may be posted gently without fear of marring the celluloid. This makes the pen comfortable in almost any hand.
