This pen is as perfect as could be wished. The celluloid, transparency, plating, nib and everything about this pen are as nice as when it was newly made in 1940 or 1941. It's amazing.

Carmine did not appear in the Sheaffer catalogs until 1940. The final catalog featuring the Balance was 1941. The Balance was replaced by the Triumph in 1942. That makes Carmine among the shortest production duration celluloids in the Balance line. Despite that they are plentiful so they must have been as popular then as they are now.

What makes this pen stand out is the Feather Touch 5 nib. One of the best nibs ever produced. Ever. It has the perfect amount of softness and bounce to produce mesmerizing line variation under normal writing pressure. So much fun and happiness.

This pen is comparable in size to a Sailor 1911L or Pelikan M800. While those pens have nibs larger than the Feather Touch 5 they do not typically have its luscious bounce. And this pen holds an amazing amount of ink.
