~1938 Ebonized Pearl Sheaffer Balance Junior
Sheaffer ebonized pearl celluloid is one of the most beautiful pen materials ever made. It consists of multiple layers of clear celluloid. One of the layers includes black spiral stripes. Another contains nacre (mother of pearl) chips. In some of pens ultraviolet exposure has darkened the top layers of clear celluloid. This can make the pens look brown and it hides the iridescence of the nacre. This pen has excellent color and the original brilliance of the nacre glows.
The chrome trim is in good condition. The cap band has some wear but the clip plating is in great condition but for a bit of wear on the edges of the ball.
The #3 nib is amazing and there are few modern nibs that perform on this level. It is soft and expressive and provides very nice line variation under normal writing pressure. Do be careful as it is not meant to be pushed like a flexible or even semi-flexible nib.
This pen is comparable in physical dimensions to a modern Sailor ProGear Slim.
The filling system has been restored with modern materials that will last decades. The rusted filler rod has been replaced with a black oxide coated stainless steel rod. This pen is in as close to new condition as it can be.
