1936 Large (OS) Ebonized Pearl Sheaffer Balance fountain pen

The large Balance. The OS. The Premier.

Collectors often call this an OverSize Sheaffer Balance. Sheaffer didn't attach model names to their pens until the 1938 catalog. In the 1936 catalog this pen is listed as model D8W WADIB, Vacuum $10 Ebonized Pearl. I think the 1938 model name Premier has a better ring so I generally call these pens "Premier". I suppose OverSize is easy, too.

The only flaw is plating loss on the cap clip. The celluloid has excellent color with all the expected iridescence of the nacre chips on display, very good claritym and no marks or cracks. The nib writes a wet, smooth, fine line. The filler has been restored with modern synthetic materials that will last for years with an occasional application of silicone grease to the filler rod.

For reference, the size is almost exactly that of a Montblanc 146.
