1935 Ebonized Pearl Sheaffer Balance "Statesman" - fine point
Sheaffer introduced their version of the vacuum filler to their Balance line in 1935. This is a first year Sheaffer Balance Vacuum-Fil. The key is the humped cap clip. 1935 is the final year for this clip which was replaced in 1936 by a streamlined clip with no imprint.
You'd never know this pen was 89 years old. The barrel color and clarity is excellent. Not perfect, but excellent. The nacre (mother of pearl) chips are suspended in clear celluloid that often turns yellow or brown with too much exposure to UV. This pen has been well kept and the transparency is excellent and shows off the iridescence of the nacre.
The only criticism is a bit of overhang of the filler knob.
