1935 Black Sheaffer Balance full size "Statesman" - medium point

This pen is marvelous. You'd never know it is 89 years old.

Sheaffer introduced their version of the vacuum filler to their Balance line in 1935. This is a first year Sheaffer Balance Vacuum-Fil. The key is the humped cap clip. 1935 is the final year for this clip which was replaced in 1936 by a streamlined clip with no imprint.

The barrel color and clarity is excellent - nearly perfect. The plating is perfect as is the celluloid apart from a couple of tiny flea bites on the back of the cap.

The nib is glorious. Most pens of this era have fine or extra-fine points. This is a generous medium that is smooth, wet and wonderful.
