This is a little time capsule from 1942. I try to be careful not to get too excited and exaggerate about the condition of a pen. This one is truly like new. The celluloid, the transparency, clarity and color of the ink view, the nib and the trim are all absolutely amazing. Not a single flaw to report.

This is a 2nd generation Tuckaway. The 1st generation was in the Balance era and had a gold plated overlay. This pen is contemporary with the 1st generation Triumph that also has the extra-wide cap band. You'll note there is no clip. Sheaffer advertising implied the pen was intended for a gentleman's vest pocket or a lady's purse. A later generation Tuckaway has a small button-like clip that Sheaffer called a clasp.

It's obviously a very small pen. But, like all great pocket pens the cap posts to make the pen a very reasonable size. I have large hands and tend to grip pens on or above the threads. With the cap posted this pen is perfectly comfortable for me to use. And the nib is bigger than a modern #5. I think it looks brilliant.

The filling system has been restored using modern synthetic seals. An occasional dab of 100% pure silicone grease on the filler rod will keep this pen working for several more decades.
