~1932 Medium Foliage Green Conklin Symetrik Endura - lever - fine

I think of Conklin as one of those pen companies like Wahl-Eversharp. They took a different approach to pens than did Sheaffer and Parker. They were certainly dragged along the same path. They switched from ebonite to celluloid and then to streamlined from flat tops. But each of those moves was done in a style and flair that is particular to Conklin.

The celluloids Conklin used are different from those of Sheaffer and Parker. I think they compare best with the rich, deep materials from Carter's and Wahl-Eversharp. Like a Cadillac or a Lincoln they are pens with a little more style and panache than the average Chevy or Ford.

The clip, the pen shapes, the small lever and that iconic crescent that appears on the cap, lever end and the nib vent let you know that this is something different. Something special.

This pen is in fantastic condition. The celluloid is nearly perfect with only a couple of tiny flea bites that are almost impossible to find unless you know where to look and turn them to catch the light. There is no staining, darkening or discoloration. The clip is tight and has only one spot of plating loss near the end. The cap bands are tight and have no plating loss. The lever is in very good condition with only a couple of small spots of plating loss. The lever ears are intact and keep the lever clipped securely in the barrel.

The nib is a firm fine that I've tuned to be juicy wet and smooth. It's truly a joy to write with.

I've installed a large #18 sac that holds lots of ink. This is a pen that will write comfortably for hours.
